Scare Devices

Scare or hazing devices are audible or visual deterrents deployed near livestock pastures, intended to scare predators away from attractants. They present an unknown risk to wildlife and mimic human presence in the area.

Audible deterrents include propane-fueled canons, cracker shells, or Radio Activated Guard (RAG) systems where a loud noise is triggered by a radio-collared wolf. Visual deterrents include RAG systems that trigger lights, motion-detecting lights, or Foxlights. We have successfully used Foxlights to deter large carnivores from entering cattle, sheep, and goat pastures.
